Singing Success’ Twelve CDs
I’ve spent a bit of time thinking about Brett Manning’s product when it dawned on me that I’ve never explained what any of the twelve cds that come with Singing Success actually contain.
From an outsider’s perspective, if I was going to buy a product and was told it contained one book and twelve CDs, I’d be a little unsure about going ahead and buying it considering that’s all.
So, without further ado, I will offer some explanation as to exactly what bang you get for your buck.
Of the twelve CDs, the first CD is kind of like the ‘explanation’ CD. All the essential terminology and the basic concept of the program are explained to you in detail on this disc. The next CD covers what the most difficult parts of learning to sing effectively actually are, which include some tips and tricks that you may find surprising!
CDs three to eight contain exercises. Plenty of exercise for you to do at your own pace, designed to allow you to gradually improve your range, tone and vibrato. Each exercise and lesson builds on lessons you have learned from previous CDs.
That leaves four more CDs. Well…I’m not going to give everything away, there has to be some mystery. But, that being said, within the remaining four CDs, you will find more exercises that are tuned to more specific styles, a wide range of styles to cater for any singing genre as well as two original songs that will keep you on your toes to see just how much you’ve learnt.

Clearing Your Throat
This may seem like a simple thing to do but in order to get the most out of your singing voice, it is important to be able to do this correctly. In fact, there are some who say you should never directly clear your throat.
Brett Manning, the creator of Singing Success, suggests the best method is to clear your throat without irritating it. To do this, a gentle ‘whispered cough’ is often used by those who use Singing Success, as this clears the mucus that builds up in your throat but doesn’t turn your voice coarse.
However, sometimes the mucus production can be in overdrive and so the best way to deal with that is cut up a lemon into quarters. Put one quarter in a tall glass of water and sip it over 20 minutes. If you’re performing, make sure you have this nearby on stage. This should definitely cut through the majority of the mucus giving you a clearer sound.
The last tip that definitely co-incides with using Singing Success would be to avoid dairy products as much as possible during the day of the performance…especially Cheese!

Singing Success - A comparison with Singorama
I can verify that Singing Success is a great product, let’s be honest, Brett wouldn’t be selling it and staking his reputation on it if it wasn’t. That said, surely Singing Success isn’t the only product available. Over the last while I’ve been examining the pros and cons of Singing Success in comparison against another leading vocal training kit. Emily Mander’s Singorama is not as well known as Singing Success, nor does it have the real celebrity endorsement, but just how does it fare?
Singing Success offers a huge selection of resources available, giving you a fun, safe and reasonably quick method to improve your singing - signing up to the program also offers you a wide selection of online tools too.
Singorama, on the other hand, doesn’t provide as many “learning materials” but does offer a course suitable for any type of singer. Singorama offers more in terms of actual useable software, including Jayde Musica Pro, something which Singing Success doesn’t deliver. Singorama also offers free telephone and email support.
I think the obvious advantage for Singing Success is the reputation of Brett Manning as a teacher. Putting his great technical skills alongside his motivataional skills offers a fantastic opportunity for you to learn. Singorama delivers the software and is easy to pick up and learn but for me, I think it fails just on going that extra mile to improve you voice.
Final verdict, Singorama 8/10, Singing Success 9/10.

Singing Success Improves Tone Quality
Tone quality improves when the correct musculature is engaged in the singing process. Feel underneath your chin with your forefinger and slide it inwards to the point where your neck meets the muscles under your chin. Now swallow. Notice how your larynx (Adam’s apple) raises up and the muscles under your chin tighten up as you swallow? These muscles that are engaged in the swallowing process are opposed to those engaged in the singing process. The use of these muscles while singing creates a myriad of problems that can take years to correct if left unchecked. For good tone quality, you must learn to sing without the outer muscles of the larynx. Doing so will set free your natural voice, drastically improving tone quality and ease of use.
